The
College of Arts and Sciences’ English and Mass Communications Department with
Tolentine Star and Tolentine Herald is holding the Third Province-Wide
Inter-High School News Writing Competition on February 15, 2014 (Saturday),
7:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at the High School Activity and Cultural Center (HSACC).
Aiming
at developing the writing skills of young campus writers, this competition is
open to all public and private school students in Negros Occidental. Winners
and non-winners in the previous news writing contest are still qualified to
join.
Considering
the big number of participants, the contest shall be limited to only 60 slots
(20 for Bacolod City, 20 for Southern Negros, and 20 for Northern Negros). Only
the first 20 registrants from each area shall be qualified. However, should the
number of registrants from an area be less than 20 at the end of the
pre-registration period, the available slots shall be filled in with the
registrants from other areas.
Each
school should have only two (2) contestants who should be endorsed by the head
or principal of their current school. The written endorsement letter together
with the School ID should be presented during the final registration.
Non-Endorsement-No-Entry-To-The-Contest-Policy shall be strictly observed.
Pre-registration
officially opens on February 3, 2014 at 8:00 AM and closes on February 12, 2014
at 5:00 PM. To be qualified, contestants must pre-register by sending a text
message to 09193185182 within the prescribed pre-registration dates. Text
message for registration should contain the following data:

The
final 60 participants shall receive a confirmation through 09193185182.
During
the day of the competition, contestants should come in their school uniforms
including their School ID. Participants should prepare their own meals and
writing materials. Final Registration shall be on February 15, 2014 from 7:00 –
8:30 AM. Late registration during the contest day shall be a ground for
disqualification.
Registration
is FREE OF CHARGE.
Contest
rules and mechanics shall be emailed to the coach soon after the registration.
The
participants will have the opportunity to undergo a mini-workshop under Miss
Yasmin Pascual-Dormido and win cash prizes and certificates.
