The
national championships of the centerpiece sports program for children 15 years
and below shall finally push through on 28 January – 1 February 2013 in Bacolod
City.
The
Philippine Sports Commission– Philippine Olympic Committee Batang Pinoy
National Finals was originally set on 14 – 25 November 2013 but was moved to 28
January – 1 February 2014 due to typhoon Yolanda that wrought havoc in the
Visayas region causing a national calamity.
A
total of 21 sports will be played at the following venues:
Panaad
Park and Stadium for Arnis, Athletics, Cycling, Swimming and Triathlon;
Pohang
Court for Badminton;
Tay
Tung High School for Basketball 3-on-3 both (Boys and Girls);
Bay
Center for Boxing;
New
Government Center for Chess;
University
of St. La Salle for Dancesport, Gymnastics and Volleyball (Boys and Girls);
Negros
Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center for Futsal;
Robinson’s
Place for Karatedo; Monte Vista for Lawn Tennis;
University
of Negros Occidental – Recoletos for Sepak Takraw;
Bacolod
National High School for Taekwondo and Softball;
Lopue’s
San Sebastian for Table Tennis;
SM
Transport Hub for Weightlifting; and
Gaisano
City for Wrestling.
POC
president Jose Cojuangco Jr, POC representative to Batang Pinoy Romeo Magat,
PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia, Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. and
Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella will lead the opening ceremonies at
Panaad Stadium on 28 January.
“We
look forward to seeing the Davao City delegation that topped the Mindanao
Qualifying leg held in Tagum City, said PSC Chairman Garcia. Cebu City and
Pangasinan wrested the first place in the Visayas Qualifying leg in Maasin City
and the Luzon leg in Zambales, respectively.
Davao
City announced they will not join the National Finals due to funding
constraints.
Approximately
2,000 medalists are expected to see action in the “City of Smiles” under Mayor
Puentevella, former PSC Commissioner who incidentally is the Father of Batang
Pinoy.
