As
a Catholic University, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R)
provides opportunities for the members of the academe to enrich, deepen and
practice their faith.
The
Department of Religious Education (REED) offers four courses for tertiary level
students—REEDBD1CO, REEDBL2CO, REEDCS3CO, and REEDCM4CO. These courses must be
taken by college students to comply the academic requirements of their respective
undergraduate degrees. But more than just simply a requirement, students enrolled
in all REED courses are immersed in their Christian faith, that is, to know,
experience, worship, love and serve the One True God in the person of Jesus
Christ in his Church, the community of disciples.
To
accompany this process of immersion, the department prints four handbooks to
facilitate classroom instruction and discussion. These handbooks are named
after the core topics of each REED course. They are as follows:
REVELATION
AND FAITH, a REEDBD1CO
Handbook course, covers basic Catholic doctrines on prayer, faith and
scriptures.
CHRISTOLOGY, a REEDBL2CO Handbook, discusses about
the life, person and mission of Jesus Christ.
CHURCH
AND SACRAMENTS, a
REEDCS3CO Handbook, delves into the nitty-gritty of the nature, mission and
ministry of the Church and the seven Ritual Sacraments of the Church.
CHRISTIAN
MORALITY, a REEDCM4CO
Handbook, focuses on Christian anthropology, ethics and Ten Commandments.
For
five years now, it has been the mission of the Religious Education Department
to provide REED students with quality and affordable handbooks for their
private use. And this mission has been transformed into a commitment on the
members of the Religious Education Handbook Committee chaired by the Department
Director, Rev. Fr. Cornelio E. Moral, OAR to sustain this noble work as our modest
contribution to the work of evangelization of the University.
The
celebration of the Year of Faith (2012-2013) inspired the Religious Education
Handbook Committee to print for the first time a full-color cover edition of
the four Religious Education Handbooks since first semester of June 2012.
