Philosophy
UNO-R is a big family in which
dialogue, interaction take place. The goal of the school is not only information-knowledge but more
importantly, formation-wisdom which
means offering and promotion of principles that must be translated in an
attitude of love.
Faithful to the teachings of St.
Augustine and inspired by the university’s motto, CARITAS ET SCIENTIA, we take
the person as a whole who is to be developed integrally with due consideration
for this interior and communitarian dimension. We are all companions who
continuously love to reach for the truth until we become like Christ.
UNO-R as a Catholic University
faithful to teaching of St. Augustine aims to make knowledge as a
structure of wisdom such as the search for knowledge(scientia) should
lead one to exercise love (caritas), the University of Negros
Occidental-Recoletos strives to impart the Augustinian Recollect style of
education, which seeks to develop the person integrally.
Vision
UNO-R
envisions envisions itself as:
A Catholic Institution giving witness to the Augustinian
Recollect charism — Marian, Apostolic, Contemplative and Communitarian — as a way of living the Christian faith;
A true Catholic Institution offering an Augustinian Recollect style
of education that responds to the needs of the Church, the Filipino society and
the world; and
A partner of the government in the development of the young to be
productive, enlightened, and upright citizens whose hearts and minds are not
only focused on their individual good but also on the welfare and well-being of
the entire Filipino nation with special concern for the weak and the poor.
Mission
As a Catholic University imbued with
the Recollect style of viewing education, the University of Negros
Occidental-Recoletos commits itself to provide the climate, the structure, and
the means by which vocation, technical skills and talents of all members of the
academic community can be optimally developed and inextricably permeated by
faith, so they can be used in the service of the people for the glory of God.
Goals
The University of Negros
Occidental-Recoletos translates its mission statement in the following four
domains of schooling:
Academic: Continuing education, with religion as the core to qualified
persons with preferential option for the poor from the elementary to the
graduate level.
Non-Academic: Opening of opportunities for the development of skills and talents
in the areas of sports and cultural endeavors;
Community Extension: Complementation of the study programs with interdisciplinary outreach
projects that will enable the academic community to be actively involved in the
promotion of the total development of man; and
Research: Enrichment of the existing academic programs and broadening of knowledge
through functional, ethical researches for the authentic good of the
individuals and society
Objectives
At the end of the
formation the students are expected to be:
Spiritually sound individuals who are CHRIST-centered and MARIAN-inspired.
Intellectually cultured individuals who are able to rationally and eloquently communicate their ideas
and appreciate the arts as a reflection of the infinite beauty of God.
Morally healthy individuals who can weigh values with a great sense of accountability;
Physically healthy individuals who give due respect to the human body, keeping it fit as a temple
of the HOLY SPIRIT;
Culturally conscious individuals who can value heritage earned by past generations, enriching it by
promoting desirable traditions and rendering authentic service to the Church
and the country for the common good;
Socially conscious individuals who are sensitive and responsive to the needs of the marginalized sector of the
community and the society;
Technically proficient individuals who have superior skills in the practice of their professions;
and,
Scholarly leaders of science who extend the frontiers of knowledge through experimentation and
verification, bringing out a deeper evaluation of problems that will make them
see profoundly the synthesis of faith, reason, culture and life.
Core Values
Love. A UNO-Rian strives to create and build a community founded on love
of God and neighbor and of
which everybody like to belong to or be part of. As part of the community we
aspire to develop the values of: acceptance, commitment, empathy,
forgiveness, respect and trust.
Marian (Discipleship).
UNO-R
is a community of disciples who like Mary, Our Lady of Consolation, the first disciple of the Lord,
unceasingly draws her members to God through an act of faith by listening to God’s
Word and embracing it with generous and open heart and bear fruit through
perseverance. As UNO-Rians, we strive for: openness, sensitivity for others’
needs, selflessness, witnessing and obedience.
Moral Integrity. UNO-R is a community that strives to live a life based on the
Gospel. As persons committed to the teachings of Christ we endeavor to live the
values of: uprightness, transparency, honesty, conscientiousness, justice,
and decency.
Service. UNO-R
is a community that strives to develop in all her members that values and qualities
of humble and generous service. It seeks to build up a community where everyone
aimed towards authentic service for the benefit of the common good. As members
of the community, we aspire to develop values of: solidarity, genuine commitment,
responsibility, passion and zeal.
Passion for
Excellence. UNO-R is a community where all the
members aspire to be and do their best as gifted persons in response to the
Lord’s invitation “You must be perfect as you Heavenly Father is perfect.” As
members of the community, we strive to have: proficiency, love of knowledge,
vision, patience and humility to learn.
Community Life. UNO-R is a community that strives to develop in all her members
the values and qualities that will enable them to live and work in harmony with
others in all circumstances and conditions, reflecting UNO-R as SEEDBED of
people for others whether they will be led by their vocation, profession and
mission. As members of the community, we strive to develop the values of: other-centeredness,
family, reciprocity, unity in diversity, sense of belongingness, and solidarity.
Justice and
Peace. UNO-R is a community that strives to
develop in all her members the values and qualities of JUSTICE and PEACE. It is
a commitment to give what is due to others upholding what is fair, just and
lawful for unity and harmony. A UNO-Rian, therefore, values: justice, peace,
harmony, care for nature and care for resources.
