Guidelines and Mechanics of Catholic Faith Festival 2015 Events


GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS OF EVENTS

COSPLAY


1.     The competition is open to all bona fide Religious Education students, male and female, duly endorsed by their respective REED Advisers.

2.     Participants can cosplay any biblical characters or saints that they love to dress up and look like.

3.    The contest will be held on September 24, 2015, 10:00 AM at the University Gymnasium.

4.     All cosplayers must pre-register to join the contest. Pre-Registration Forms can be secured from REED teachers and to be submitted to MRS. MARY JANE ERANISTA at the REED Office on or before August 14. Only those who have pre-registered and submitted the complete requirements within the specified date will be eligible to join the contest. 

5.     All registrants are required to submit a reference picture of their respective character.

6.     All cosplayers shall be identified by numbers.

7.     Contestants shall be given a maximum of TWO MINUTES for their performance. Exceeding the time provided will result in a maximum deduction from the overall score of the contestant or even disqualification.

8.     Dangerous articles such as metallic weaponry (swords, knives, etc.), firearms, and pyrotechnics of any kind that may cause damage to the venue or harm to fellow cosplayers and/or event staff and attendees are strictly not allowed as props for the Cosplay Competition. Any articles made from any other material such as cardboard, PVC, Styrofoam, etc. are allowed to be used as props for the competition.

9.     The organizers reserve the right to (a) refuse entry/display of any costumes entered into the competition that they deem inappropriate; (b) to cut short any acts that they deem to be inappropriate; (c) to disqualify any contestants within reason; and (d) to adjust the rules of this competition in any way it sees fit and disqualify any entry for non-compliance with the rules and regulations outlined in this document.

10.  By entering the competition, the participant agrees to abide by all the terms and conditions as set out in this document. Participants who do not follow these rules will be disqualified.

11.  The cosplayers in both categories shall be judged using the following criteria:

40% - Craftsmanship
30% - Accuracy/Authenticity
20% - Stage Performance
10% - Audience Impact

12.  Judges’ decision is final and can’t be appealed.

13.  Top 3 winners in each category will be announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2014.


14.  Orientation and Rehearsal of contestants will be on September 16, 2015, 4:00 P.M.


PHOTO CONTEST

A.  Mechanics

1.     The contest is open to all bonafide Religious Education (REED) students— amateur and professional photography enthusiasts.
2.     All participants are required to submit the copy of the signed REGISTRATION AND WAIVER FORM which can be secured from their respective REED Advisers and to be submitted to Dr. Dennis Madrigal at the REED Office on or before August 14, 2015. Only those who submitted the complete requirements are eligible to join the contest.
3.     All participants are responsible for providing their photographic equipment, including cameras, spare batteries, lenses or additional memory cards. They are expected to come prepared with their own photographic equipment needs.
4.     The participants can submit a maximum of three (3) photos for the photo contest which is open for both point-and-shoot and DSLR users.
5.     Photos must be original, entertaining and wholesome, depicting “Caritas et Scientia” — service, community life, interiority, Marian, moral integrity, peace and justice, love, and passion for excellence.
6.     “Set” shots with models, and other paraphernalia that will be part of the image are not allowed.
7.     Entries which suggest and/or show obscene and indecent acts or poses, offensive to Catholic moral standards are not eligible and therefore be disqualified as entries.
8.     Use of logos and brand names, foul language and violent actions are grounds for immediate disqualifications.
9.     The following are the list of equipment that you can bring and utilize for the Photo Contest: Digital Cameras-Point-and-shoot & DSLR, Built in flash, Speedlite, Ring Lite, Macro Twin Lite, Flash Unit, Speedlite Transmitter & Flash Diffuser, EF/EFS Lenses and other third party lenses, FILTERS: Polarizing, Neutral Density, Close-up, Skylight, Softmat, Infrared Filters, Tripods, Monopods and the like; Remote switch trigger and wireless controller, Battery Grips.
10.  All participants must abide by the competition rules. Violation of any above-stated rules and/or non-compliance of the same shall be a ground for automatic disqualification

B. Submission of Entries 

11.  All entries must be submitted both in hard copies/printouts and digital copies. No RAW files will be allowed. Images may not be altered by any image editing software. Enhancements must be limited to basic post-processing such as adjustments of contrast, minimal color — balancing, sharpening, cropping, and dodging and burning. For digital copies, images will only be accepted in JPEG format. Image size should have at least 1800 pixels X 1200 pixels at 280/300 DPI. For hard copies/printouts, images will only be accepted in 8” x10” canvass size in 300 resolution.
12.  All entries should be submitted on or before September 21, 2015, until 5:00 PM only. The REED Days 2014 Photo Contest Organizing Committee shall have no liability for delayed, corrupted or lost entries.  The organizers reserve the right to refuse and disqualify the photo entries which will be submitted beyond the deadline.
13.  All entries must be an original material taken by the photographer and should not include watermarks, signatures, frames, date and/or time stamp or any other markings on the photo. Names of photographers shall be included only after the judging and during the photo exhibition.
14.  Entries must be unpublished and not be submitted or to be submitted to any other competition, owned by other entity, nor subject of any copyright issue.
15.  Costs of photo developing and other related expenses shall be shouldered by the participant.



16.  By participating in the contest, the photographer shares his/her copyright to the REED Photo Contest Organizing Committee.  The organizer reserves the right to use any submitted photograph for the purpose of information, advocacy, campaigns and promotions in all its activities and projects in the future, whether print, online, or any other medium without compensation to the photographer. Proper acknowledgement will be made.

C.   Selection of Winning Entries

17.  From all the submitted photo entries, judges composed of photographers shall pick three winners.  
18.  The decision of the organizer and competition judges is final. No appeals will be entertained.

20.  Top 3 Winners will be announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2015.

Logo Design Contest

1.     The contest is open to all Religious Education students duly endorsed by their respective REED teachers. Contestants should fill-up the registration form.
2.     The contest duration is from August 1, 2015 to September 1, 2015.
3.     Contestants may submit up to three original (3) entries. The logo design must incorporate Augustinian symbols (pierced flaming heart and book), the Cross, and the words UNO-Recoletos Catholic Faith Festival.
4.     The logo may be done by free-hand rendered in Markers, Ink, Pastel, Watercolor, Oil or Acrylic or by computer. The logo should be drawn/illustrated in A4 bond paper size.
5.     The logo should not carry the name of the artist.
6.     Entries should contain a brief description or rationale (not more than 500 words) explaining the components (symbols, colors, etc.) of the logo.
7.     Entries should be submitted in print (short bond paper size) and digital versions (flat jpeg format with minimum 300 pixels).
8.     The printed version of the logo should be sealed in a short brown envelope and forwarded to: DR. DENNIS MADRIGAL, Catholic Faith Festival 2015 Chair at Religious Education Department Office.
9.     The digital version should be e-mailed to: catholicfaithfestival@yahoo.com. Filename is your name and artwork title. Example: dennismadrigal_cff-logo.jpeg
10.  All entries (print and digital versions) should be submitted on or before September 1, 2015.
11.  The logo-making competition shall be judged according to the following criteria:
Concept/Relevance – 40%, Originality – 30%, and Creativity and Visual Impact – 30%
12.  Entries will be judged on September 10, 2015. The decision of the judges is final.
13.  Winners will be announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2015.
14.  Three winners shall be chosen and shall receive a certificate and cash prize. Special Citation will be awarded to the Most Popular Entry on Facebook.
15.  Winners will be announced and awarded on September 25, 2015.

*Internal Process of Selection:

1.     All entries will be displayed prominently on the Religious Education Bulletin Board.

2.     The Top Ten entries shall be uploaded in the Catholic Faith Festival Official Facebook page. A voting period for the Top Ten Entries will be allotted to select the Most Popular Entry based on the Facebook votes or “likes”. The voting shall commence as soon as the entries will be uploaded on Facebook page and will run until September 22, 2015.

3.     The Religious Education Director, Area Chair, and Faculty Members shall constitute the screening and selection committee to determine the winning entries on September 10, 2015. The decision of the committee is final.

SHORT FILM CONTEST

1.     The Short Film Contest aims to provide opportunities for the Religious Education students to develop and enhance their interest in and knowledge about film production; promote a culture where members of the academic community engage in the film making as a medium in promoting and disseminating social, cultural, environmental and religious realities and issues while at same time communicating Gospel values; encourage the members of the academic community to produce short films for evangelization, University core values, media literacy and promotion of the indie film making in the University.
2.     The film must explore and communicate the theme, “Caritas et Scientia” — service, community life, interiority, Marian, moral integrity, peace and justice, love, and passion for excellence.
3.     Each REED adviser can only endorse one (1) team/class to join the contest.  A pre-registration form is available at the REED Office and be submitted to Dr. Dennis Madrigal on or before August 14, 2015.
4.     The film entry must be an original work and produced by REED students. Participants are responsible for all production costs of the filming.
5.     The total running time of the video must not be less than 5 minutes and must not exceed 8 minutes, including the opening and closing credits.
6.     All entries should begin with a 10 second full-screen “title screen” that includes the following information:

“Title of the Video”

7.     The film must be in English and/or Hiligaynon (subtitles in English must be provided).
8.     The film may use any genre as long as it can best explore and communicate the theme.
9.     Original musical score is strongly recommended but the production team may adapt musical scores from varied sources provided a detailed acknowledgment (the name of the album, composer and artist) must be included in the final credits of the film.
10.  The film must be viewable for all audiences. Profane language or personal attacks on people or organizations are prohibited. Any entry deemed inappropriate or unsuitable will be disqualified. 
11.  All entries must be submitted in digital format. It must be saved and submitted as mpg, mpg4 or vlc formats on DVD.
12.  One DVD copy of the official entry must be submitted to the REED Office on September 21, 2015, not later than 5:00 PM.  All entries will become property of the Religious Education Department. Participants should keep at least one copy of their video. The organizer is not responsible for any video entries that are lost and damaged.
13.  The judges’ decision is final. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

A.    CONTENT (The story and structure of the film: Script/Story - 10%, Creativity - 10%
Originality and Coherence - 10%)
B.    TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE  (The technical aspects of the film: Cinematography and Visual Creativity - 10%, Sound Design and Soundtrack     - 10%, Editing and Effective Use of Sound Effects  - 10%)
C.    OVERALL QUALITY (Overall quality of film: Overall Impression - 10%, Enjoyment Factor    - 10%, Meaningfulness and Relevance    - 10%) 

14.   Winners will be announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2015.


BRAIN CHALLENGE

1.     REED Advisers can endorse two (2) teams to participate in the contest. There must be a maximum of five (5) participants per team.
2.     All participating teams must pre-register to join the contest. Forms can be secured from their respective REED teachers and be submitted to MR. JOEL C. TAMBUSON/MR. REY AGITA at the REED Office on or before August 14, 2015.
3.     Participants are to report to the University Gymnasium by 1:00 PM on September 24, 2015 for the formal registration and determination of their official contest numbers and competition briefing. Any late arrivals will be disqualified. The contest will immediately follow around 1:30 P.M.
4.     All questions will only cover Biblical Characters/Personalities, Recollect saints, and Augustinian Recollect History in general.
5.     Questions will be prepared by the REED Days Quiz Bowl Committee.
6.     The contest is divided into two main parts: the Qualifying Round and the Final Round.
7.     There will be forty-five (45) questions which will be distributed into three categories: Easy Questions (20), Moderate Questions (15) and Difficult Questions (10).
8.     Questions shall be Multiple Choice for the qualifying round, easy and moderate questions. No choices shall be provided for the difficult questions.
9.     Since the questions will be flashed on screen, the questions shall be read only once after which no repetition of the same will be done.
10.  The contestant shall not write the answers until the signal is given. Timer will start as the quizmaster gives the signal “GO.” A bell shall be rung to signal that the time I up and the contestant should stop writing.
11.  Contestants will be given 10 seconds to answer each question in the qualifying round, easy and moderate questions, and 20 seconds in the difficult questions.
12.  No points shall be awarded for incomplete and wrongly spelled answers.
13.  The points to be awarded for each correct answer will be as follows:

14.  At the end of each round, the total score of each contestant will be computed. Only those contestants who belonged to the Top Ten highest scores will qualify and proceed to the Final Round.
15.   The contestant with the highest score at the end of the difficult round shall be declared the Champion; while the second and third highest scoring contestants as the first and second runners-up respectively.
16.  In case of a tie, a clincher question/s will be given. The first contestant to gain a point advantage shall be declared winner.
17.  Protest arising from the contest must be addressed to the panel of judges which will be composed of the REED Area Chair and all REED Teachers. The validity of the answer shall be decided upon by the judges. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.
18.  The audience must observe silence while the contest is going on. COACHING IS STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED FROM THE AUDIENCE.
19.  All contestants must abide by the contest rules.
20.  One point will be deducted from the total score of the contestant for every violation of any above-stated rules and/or non-compliance of the same.
21.   Winners of the contest will be formally announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2015.


CHURCH BUILDING CONTEST

1.     Each REED faculty member is eligible to send one (1) group composed of 15-20 members to represent his/her team.

2.     The group must fill-up pre-registration form and submit it to Mrs. Mary Jane Eranista on or before August 14, 2015.

3.     The participants must provide and bring their materials together with tools and equipment needed to build their Church of the Poor (Simbahan Sang Kubos).

4.     The project must be done on September 24, 2015 at University Amphitheater and must be completed within the allotted time of three hours from 1:30 until 4:30 P.M.

5.     Native Materials (lumber, bamboo, seeds, shells, rattan, amakan, nipa, coconut husks, “ginit and “suwak,” cogon leaves, etc.) must be used and laid out before the contest begins. They may also use glue, varnish, and paint of any color, nails and other fixing materials.

6.     The base of the church must be made of plywood with a size of 31”X19” (1/4 size of plywood).

7.     One table will be assigned for each team for the church building contest. The team should make their building fit in the space provided for them.

8.     The participants must observe CLAYGO at all times. They should bring a black trash bag for their garbage. Cleanliness is part of the judging. One point will be deducted from the total score for the group whose work area was not neatly clean-up and trashes were not thrown properly.

9.     Entries shall be judged based on the following criteria:

20% - Relevance to the “Church of the Poor” (Simbahan Sang Kubos) Concept
20% - Visual Impact
20% - Resourcefulness and Use of Materials
20% - Creativity and Originality
20% - Neatness and Sturdiness of Structure
                  10. Church building will be displayed until the end of the Catholic Faith Festival 2015 or extended according to 
                public demand. 

DANCE INTERPRETATION CONTEST

1.     The competition is open to all bonafide Religious Education students duly endorsed by their respective REED Advisers.

2.     There shall be 20 – 30 participants for each group. Contestants shall be identified by numbers only.

3.     To join the contest, each group must pre-register to join the contest. Pre-Registration Forms can be secured from REED teachers and to be submitted to Mrs. Genie Pedrosa at the REED Office on or before August 14, 2015. Only those who have pre-registered and submitted the complete requirements are eligible to join the contest.

4.     The official dance music to be interpreted shall be determined by the organizing committee.

5.     Costume and props must be used.

6.     Dangerous and flammable items and pyrotechnics of ANY kind that may cause damage to the venue or harm to fellow participants and/or event staff and attendees are strictly not allowed as props for the dance competition.

7.     The dance interpretation will be judged based on the following criteria:

Mastery of Performance – 30%
Accuracy and precision of performance, fluency of entrance and exit, use of dance area

Choreography – 30%
Originality, appropriateness, variety

Costume and Props – 30%
Appropriateness of costumes and props, clarity of their symbolic meaning

Overall Impact – 10%
Effectiveness of performance, difficulty level and energy and rapport

8.     The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

9.     Winners will be announced and awarded in the afternoon of September 25, 2015.

10.  General Orientation of dancers (5 representatives) shall be held on September 16, 2015, 4:00 P.M. at TV202.

11.  All participants of the contest must attend the general technical rehearsal on September 23, 1:30 P.M.


SONG WRITING CONTEST


1.     The song composition must be based on the theme, “Caritas et Scientia” — service, community life, interiority, Marian, moral integrity, peace and justice, love, and passion for excellence.

2.     The song composition must be in English.

3.     The song must be originally composed by ReEd students only. The group must pre-register.

4.     No vulgar/obscene words shall be used.

5.     No copyright infringement on melody, tune, and lyrics of the composition.

6.     Submission of all entries shall be on September 1, 2015.

7.     Entries must be submitted in the DVD/CD with the title and lyrics of the song and name of the composer.

8.     Each group must be composed of at 7-10 members. Singers and instrumentalists must be ReEd students only.

9.     Only the Top 5 in the Musical Composition shall perform on stage for the formal presentation of the song on September 25, 2015. Special Citation shall be given to the Best Song and Best Composer.

10.  The composition shall be judged based on the following criteria:

Lyrics – 50 %
Originality – 25%
Musicality – 25%

TOTAL – 100%

11.  The decision of the judges is final.

12.  Winners will be announced and awarded on September 25, 2015.


CULTURAL PRESENTATION


1.     There must be one group representative of students (20-30 members) from each full-time REED Faculty.

2.     The performance must run from 5 to 7 minutes only including the entrance and the exit.

3.     The presentation must depict the cultural peculiarities of the countries where OAR Educational Apostolate are present.

8.     Colombia – Ms. Elvie Tunogbanua
9.     Venezuela – Mrs. Mary Jane Eranista

4.     The cultural presentations will be on September 25, 2015 at the UNO-R Gymnasium.

5.     REED faculty members, CMO staff, and Fr. Latoza shall join in the cultural presentation.

6.     Each REED group representatives shall be responsible for their respective choreographer, schedule of practices, costumes, and props.

7.     Each faculty advisers shall provide a short background of their respective cultural dance.

8.     REED faculty members shall coordinate with Ms. Genie Pedrosa for the schedule of practices in the Gymnasium.

9.     Deadline of Cds and background of dances will be on September 14, 2015.

10.  General Orientation of dancers (5 representatives) shall be held on September 16, 2015, 4:00 P.M. at TV202.

11.  All participants of the cultural show must attend the general technical rehearsal on September 23, 1:30 P.M.

ON-THE-SPOT ESSAY WRITING CONTEST


1.     There shall be a maximum of two participants (one for English, one for Filipino) per REED teacher. Pre-Registration Forms can be secured from their respective REED teachers and to be submitted to Ms. Elvie Tonogbanua at the REED Office on or before September 16, 2015. Only those who have pre-registered and submitted the complete requirements are eligible to join the contest.

2.     The Essay must be original and must expound the theme, “Caritas et Scientia” — service, community life, interiority, Marian, moral integrity, peace and justice, love, and passion for excellence.

3.     Writing materials shall be provided to the contestants.

4.     All Essays should be written in English/Filipino and shall consist of not less than 500 words nor more than 600 words.

5.     The entry shall not, in whole or in part, offend any religion, sect or creed, nor violate neither the standards of decency nor the laws on libel and oral defamation.

6.     Participants are to report to Fr. Cuenca Hall by 1:00 PM of September 24, 2015 for the formal registration and determination of their official contest numbers and competition briefing. Any late arrivals will be disqualified. The contest will immediately follow around 1:30 P.M.

7.     All essays shall automatically become official property of the Religious Education Department.

8.     No distinguishing mark or name of the contestant shall appear in the entry.

9.     All entries shall be judged based on the following criteria:

Content and Relevance to the theme - 50%
Language/Style - 15%
Organization - 15%
Mechanics (Grammar) - 20%


ON-THE-SPOT POSTER MAKING CONTEST


1.     A maximum of three (3) pairs of contestants per REED teacher shall be allowed. Pre-Registration Forms can be secured from REED Advisers and to be submitted to Ms. Elvie Tonogbanua at the REED Office on or before August 14, 2015. Only those who have pre-registered and submitted the complete requirements are eligible to join the contest.

2.     Participants are to report to the University Lobby by 1:00 PM on September 24, 2015 for the formal registration and determination of their official contest numbers and competition briefing. Any late arrivals will be disqualified. The contest will immediately follow around 1:30 P.M.

3.     The poster must depict/illustrate the theme, “Caritas et Scientia” — service, community life, interiority, Marian, moral integrity, peace and justice, love, and passion for excellence.

4.     The contestants are free to use any medium in making the poster.

5.     The poster must be done and submitted in ¼ illustration board size.

6.     The illustration board and other materials must be provided by the contestants. Allowed materials to be used are as follows: markers/pens/pencil, colored pencils, crayons, pastel, oil paints, poster color, water, color, ink.

7.     The poster must be done only on the spot on September 24, 2015 at University Lobby and must be completed within the allotted time of three hours from 1:30 until 4:30 P.M.

8.     All entries will be pre-numbered. No signatures, names or other identifying marks should appear at either side of the material of the entry. All posters will automatically become official property of the Religious Education Department.

9.     All entries shall be judged based on the following criteria:

10.  The judging of entries will be done on September 25 at the University Lobby. Winners will be announced and awarded in the afternoon.
